The CBN Men's Basketball League is a competitive organization operating out of the Carbonear/Harbour Grace area. The League has considerable history going back to the mid-1970s. In its inaugural year, 26 members, constituting 4 teams, came together twice a week for some recreational basketball at St. Joseph’s High School in Carbonear. In 1980, the League changed venues, relocating to St. Francis in Harbour Grace. There it remained, through sustained growth in the 1990s, until it eventually went dormant in the early to mid-2000s.
Over the years, the CBN Men’s Basketball League has had the pleasure of hosting numerous provincial and invitational tournaments. So too, have teams from the League travelled the province to take part in many tournaments. Much success has been had at these events, as evidenced by the banners and plaques that CBN players have been fortunate to raise.
Today, the League is once again thriving. After a brief hiatus, new and former members came together in 2012, to re-establish recreational basketball in the area. The brotherhood, on which the League was founded in 1976, is as strong as ever in the CBN Men’s Basketball League as it continues to support and encourage the growth of the sport in Conception Bay North.
